United Thank Offering
A United Thank Offering Ingathering will be held on Sunday, March
26th. The UTO is a ministry of the Episcopal Church that provides
a way for men, women and children to give daily thanks to God.
The discipline starts in the homes by dropping coins into a little
blue box.
These monetary gifts are used in grants. In 2005 the United Thank
Offering Committee approved 131 grants totaling $2,710,247.22.
Grants will fund projects and programs which meet compelling human
needs and/or expand the mission and ministry of the church. For
example, the average grant amount was $20,689. The largest grant,
$85,000, went to the Church in Brazil for a sustainability project.
Two other large grants, each for $80,000, went for building projects
in the Diocese of Springfield and the Diocese of the Dominican
Republic. Each United Thank Offering grant, large or small, is
in response to needs identified by dioceses and provinces throughout
the Anglican Communion.
Available in the Narthex are the "little blue boxes"
and blue envelopes. Available in the Media Center is a current
UTO newsletter and the 2005 Grant List.
